Christine (my 2nd grade teacher): What's your favorite song?
Me (7 years old): Karma Police by Radiohead
I guess that can give a look into the kind of child I was and the person I am today. Didn't care about what anyone thought about me, very decisive and blunt, and I enjoyed strange music for a 7yo.
Not saying that I only liked “dark and depressing” music, which I obviously didn't see this way. Muse, Radiohead and Nirvana sounded rather melodic, spacey and soothing. I guess the sound just made me feel good. I wasn't speaking any english back then, so I had zero clue what the actual lyrics were about. It was all about feeling the melody.
Growing up in Brussels, Belgium. I was surrounded by tons of good music. From Classical to British to French to American sounds, I was fortunate to be exposed to a lot of genres from since I can remember. I was very drastic as a child, I knew what I loved and I knew what I hated (although I try not use the word hate nowadays, that's how I use to feel toward certain types of music - cough cough pop radio).
I looked through my cd binder, browsed my old iPod, and racked my brain hard to gather songs for this playlist. I then selected what stood out the most from my childhood - You'll have to click to discover it!
I also really enjoyed french variety, disco, 70's funk, 60's rock, electro, even cheesy J-pop. But these styles are pretty far from that hard/alternative/indie rock from this playlist. So for the sake of flow and length, I figured I'd separate the genres a bit!
By creating this playlist I actually learned a bit about myself and how my love for music is transpiring into EKZO, particularly in the colors. After I gathered all of my favorite songs I realized some were really bright and fun, some were over the top cheesy, some heavy hard rock, some dark indie, some funky, some mellow electronic … This translates into our products as some are very fun colorful, or mellow earth tones, or drastic black and white with a dash of red. But never bland tho, nope never bland!
Now enjoy the behind my brain, and go discover the connection between these songs and some of our items by browsing the website as you listen!
Much Love xx
